Ash Wednesday is one of the most important holy days in our liturgical calendar. Ash
Wednesday opens Lent, a season of fasting and prayer. Ash Wednesday comes from the
ancient Jewish tradition of penance and fasting. As we receive ashes on the head we are
reminded of the dust from which God made us. As our parish Priest applies the ashes to a
person's forehead, he speaks the words: "Repent and believe in the Gospel."
Please join us at St. Thomas the Apostle Church along with staff and students from St. Thomas
at 10 am on Wednesday February 14th.
